What can I say?  This is turning out to be such a vivid journey … but more on the metaphorical aspects later …!

For now, the prosaic facts:  Hawai’i’s south-east coast, towards the end of the Chain-of-Craters Road.  This is the area where there’s been the most recent ‘live’ lava on the Big Island.  Although sadly not today, when we hiked out over the flows:  they’re having a quiet fortnight, with no surface lava.

But did we care? … No! Even the chilled lava landscape – under sunshine at least – is incandescent.  Everything glitters, in a way that doesn’t really come across in photographs (even photographs as fabulous as mine).
